Jalapão State Park

Established as a park in 2001, Jalapao was until recently not well known in Brazil. It covers approximately 400000 acres in a remote northern corner of the Cerrado, South America's largest savanna, which separates the Amazon from the Atlantic Coast. The park was left virtually untouched by the agricultural industry for centuries. I hope it remains that way for the next several centuries.

How Much Work Goes Into Flattening Gold Leaf?

20000 hammer blows. Gold leaf manufacture in Burma is many centuries old. It is associated with Buddhist ritual. Pasting gold leaf onto statues at pagodas is one way to honor the Buddha's teachings. Gilding such figures is an act of loving kindness and a path to transfer good merits. Gold in Buddhism signifies the sun: a flame of purity, knowledge, enlightenment. Seeing is believing. Visit Burma.

The Life And Times Of Stan The T. rex

The fossil was priceless to paleontologists. Now it belongs to an unknown bidder. The sale of one of the world's most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons smashed auction estimates when it was sold at Christie's auction for US$31.8 million. The sale set a new world record for any dinosaur skeleton or fossil ever sold at auction.
