Booking.com’s 2025 Travel & Sustainability Report highlights how 32,000 travelers across 34 countries are rethinking the impact of tourism on local communities and the environment.

Booking.com commissioned independent research among 32,000 travelers across 34 countries and territories.

The study was conducted online in January 2025.

Respondents had to meet these conditions:

  • Age 18+

  • Traveled at least once in the past 12 months

  • Planning to travel in 2025

  • Either the main decision maker or involved in planning travel

Where Respondents Came From

  • 1,000 each from USA, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Spain, Italy, France, UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Croatia, India, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, Japan, South Africa

  • 500 each from New Zealand, Switzerland, UAE, Kenya

Marc Bain's report on fashion in Quartz was insightful. Must read. The sad truth is all the corporate campaigning about sustainability is more marketing than genuine change. The companies and consumers in the East and West have different interpretations and understanding on sustainability. It's a real Catch-22 situation.

Marlin

Veja has launched the Marlin, a new brand with 62 percent bio-based and recycled materials. The performance shoe features a 65 percent bio-based rubber outsole made from Amazonian rubber and rice waste; a knitted upper and lining from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles; and a 60 percent sugar cane midsole. Its L-foam cushioning, which is developed from natural rubber, is meant to absorb shock and provide 80 percent energy return. Take a look.
