Thinking Huts

Maggie Grout started the NGO, Thinking Huts, as a teenager, with the aim of 3D-printing schools in countries where some children lack the opportunity to get an education. She has just printed her first school in Madagascar---only the second 3D-printed school in the world.

Build UP

The program gives teenagers the skills and the toolkit to become homeowners. I wish the schools in Kerala (India) taught the same.

Thinking Huts

Designed by Studio Mortazavi, an architecture firm based in San Francisco and Lisbon, the school is a project of the nonprofit Thinking Huts, which aims to increase global access to education through 3D printing. This first iteration will be built later this year on the campus of a university in Fianarantsoa, Madagascar. With an exterior pattern based on Malagasy textiles and 3D printed using material from the local area, the building is both an example of advanced building technologies and reflection of vernacular building styles. Take a look.

Solving Public Problems

The 12-week course titled Solving Public Problems, is based on a forthcoming book of the same name by Beth Simone Noveck, director of The Governance Lab at New York University, a center that focuses on how to improve people's lives by changing the ways we govern. It's also an extension of a course Noveck teaches at NYU and coaching she's made available to both students and professionals.

A Message From Brian Chesky

Letters from CEOs are inert. The CEO and Co-founder of AirBnB, Brian Chesky changed that with his letter to employees when he fired 25% of his company because of the pandemic. He did it differently. He taught us how to do business with people again in this difficult time in human history. Must read.

Random Thoughts

Can intelligence exist without stupidity, or in a practical sense is there always some amount of stupidity that must exist if there is also the existence of intelligence? I think intelligence and stupidity are a zen-like yin and yang.
