World's Diamond Production
Just three countries--Russia, Australia and the Democratic Republic of Congo--jointly produced almost 80 per cent of the world's diamonds last year. Russia was the single biggest diamond producer. It mined 19 million carats--just over 35 per cent. Australia and Congo tied for second place, both producing a little over 22 per cent of total production, or 12 million carats. The three countries jointly produced 79.62 per cent of the world's diamonds. Botswana trailed in fourth place with 9 per cent, or 5 million carats, but has the second biggest reserves--310 million carats. Russia has by far the biggest reserves, estimated at 650 million carats, or 34 years at current rates of consumption.

Three 100 Plus Carats Diamonds Recovered At Lulo
Lucapa Diamond Company has recovered three more 100 plus carat rough diamonds at its Lulo alluvial mine in Angola. The company found a 131 carat D-color, type IIa, a brown diamond weighing 118 carats and a 133 carat lower quality grey diamond at the site's high-value Mining Block 46. That section, which is located along the Canguige tributary, also produced a 114 carat, D-color, type IIa stone earlier this month, as well as 104 carat and 113 carat diamonds in January.

Petra Diamonds Sells 299.3 Carat Diamond For US$12.18 Million
Petra Diamonds has sold a 299.3 carat rough diamond to Stargems DMCC for US$12.18 million, after recovering the diamond at its Cullinan mine in South Africa earlier this year. The exceptional white, type IIa, gem quality diamond fetched US$40701 per carat, exceeding the US$34386 per carat Petra achieved for the 424.89 carat Legacy of the Cullinan Diamond Mine in May 2019.
