Gem Diamonds Finds A 134 Carat Yellow Diamond

Gem Diamonds has found a 134-carat yellow, the second significant colored diamond it has found this year. It discovered the high-quality, type I stone on March 31 at its Letšeng mine in Lesotho, the company said Sunday. The last yellow-diamond of that magnitude the miner reported on was a 151.52-carat stone, which it retrieved in June 2017. In March, Gem Diamonds sold a pink stone weighing 13.33 carats to Graff for $8.8 million. The company, which is renowned for the discovery of large diamonds from Letšeng, recovered a white, type IIa diamond from the deposit last week. In 2018, it found a record 15 stones weighing more than 100 carats. Thanks to Rapaport.

Lawrence Graff's Diamond Collection

Luxury jeweler Graff is preparing to cut and polish the exceptional 13.33-carat Lesotho Pink that sold for $8.8 million in February.

The company revealed this week that it bought the stone from Gem Diamonds at a tender in Antwerp. At $656,933 per carat, the sale was the highest average price for any rough diamond recovered at the Letšeng mine in Lesotho, Gem Diamonds said last week without saying who the buyer was.

The purchase comes amid a depletion of the world’s pink-diamond resources, as the mines that produce them become extinct, Graff explained.

“This is the most vivid pink rough diamond I have ever seen, and it is an exceptionally rare treasure,” said Graff founder Laurence Graff. “I am sure the polished diamond that comes from this rough will be an auspicious addition to our roll call of famous gems.” Many thanks to Rapaport.

Gem Diamonds Recovers A Pink Diamond

Gem Diamonds has recovered a high-quality, 13.33-carat pink diamond in Lesotho.

The type I diamond was unearthed earlier this month at its Letšeng mine, and is the first stone above 10.8 carats the company has reported this year. It is the largest pink diamond the miner has recovered since 2011, when it retrieved a 30.68-carat stone. In December it found a pink stone weighing 8.53 carats. Many thanks to Rapaport.

Alrosa Displays Rare Pink Diamond

Alrosa has launched an exhibition of rare polished colored diamonds, including a 14.83-carat pink that is the largest of its color in Russian history.

The oval-shaped stone was cut from a 27.85-carat rough that the company recovered in 2017 from its Ebelyakh mine in Yakutia. The miner’s largest pink diamond prior to the discovery weighed 3.86 carats.

The collection also includes an Asscher-cut, 20.69-carat, deep-yellow diamond, cut from a 34.17-carat rough. A cushion-cut, pink-purple diamond weighing 11.06 carats will also be on display. It is recognized by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) as the largest of its color in the world, the miner added.

Due to the size and fancy hues of the stones Alrosa has recovered, the company believes it can gain a strong position in the colored-diamond market. Many thanks to Rapaport Diamond Report.

Mouawad Dragon

Mouawad has manufactured a 54.21-carat polished yellow stone, which, it claims, is the largest of its shape and color the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has ever graded.

The company named the round brilliant-cut, fancy-vivid-yellow stone the Mouawad Dragon, as its color is reminiscent of a dragon’s magical powers and fiery eyes.

The rough stone was found in an alluvial deposit in South Africa, and took Mouawad six months to cut and polish. The jeweler, which manufactures its rough in South Africa, New York and Bangkok, will set the stone in a necklace that will be part of an ensemble. The entire collection will be unveiled in March, 2019.
