Egypt has opened the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) near the Great Pyramid of Giza. This new museum is the world's largest archaeological museum and is intended to be a major modern cultural attraction. It features an enormous collection of about 100,000 artifacts that cover approximately 7,000 years of Egyptian history, from its earliest periods right up through the time of the Greeks and Romans.
