Pearl identification is complex. It is not unheard of for the same pearl to receive different identifications from different organizations based on the equipment and techniques used to obtain the data, the experience and specialized knowledge of gemologists interpreting the data, and comprehensiveness of the reference sample database. I think GIA is the only place on the planet with a near-complete reference sample database. Gemologists and pearl dealers must read the insightful GIA report.
