Fabergé Winter Egg Sets New Record

The iconic Fabergé Winter Egg, originally carved from rock crystal and adorned with over 4,000 diamonds for a Russian tsar in 1913, was recently sold at Christie's London for $30.2 million. The sale, which followed a three-minute bidding battle, exceeded its $27 million pre-sale estimate and reclaimed the world record for the highest price paid at auction for a Fabergé egg. This piece had previously set the same record twice: selling for $9.1 million in 1994 and $9.6 million in 2002. The latest purchase was made by an anonymous buyer.

The collection consists of 150 lots and will be offered across three auctions: the Magnificent Jewels sale on December 10, an online handbag sale running until December 11, and a dedicated jewelry online sale closing on December 12, 2025.

The Mellon Blue Diamond

The Mellon Blue Diamond is a famous gem weighing 9.51 carats with a Fancy Vivid Blue color. It was sold for over $25.5 million USD, becoming the third most expensive vivid blue diamond ever sold by Christie's. The diamond is prized for its exceptional color and purity and once belonged to the renowned American philanthropist and art collector, Rachel Lambert Mellon (known as Bunny Mellon).

The Rainbow Collection
