The Shared Socioeconomic Pathways

One of the lead architects (Brian O'Neill, Director of the Joint Global Change Research Institute) of the five different futures----called shared socioeconomic pathways or SSPs--developed for the latest IPCC report is a must read. I think the world we are heading toward may be one in which the average human or the lucky ones will be living longer and make more money than ever, but some vulnerable humans and many nonhumans are definitely collateral damage. I live in Kerala (South India), where a series of flash floods linked to climate change have killed thousands of people since 2018. Kerala is seeing the unseen. The immediate danger of landslides and flooding in low-lying areas is real. Anything could happen in the future. There is no Plan B or C. The only thing is to live in fear. Nature is always wilder than people expect.
