Polymetallic Nodules

The landscape at the bottom of the sea is as varied as the earth surface. Pitch black and quiet, it is largely unexplored, untouched, unknown. Despite these obstacles, companies have set their sights on the seabed as the new frontier for mining. In particular, companies have their eyes on polymetallic nodues---bundles of ore that resemble potatoes, which litter the surface of the deep sea and are rich in manganese, nickel, cobalt and rare earth metals. The message to the deep sea miners is this: if you mine responsibly and share the wealth responsibly, all stakeholders will benefit. Otherwise, you will become the disaster hunters of the century.
