Raman spectroscopy is becoming an important analytical gem testing instrument in gemology. It's quick and reliable + provides information on treatments in diamond/colored stones, origin determinations, classification of inclusions, fillers and coloring materials. Though expensive, portable/affordable versions are available for gem identification and research applications. The online RRUFF Database have also become useful for gemologists to compare/analyze spectrums of most colored stones/diamonds + mineral specimens.
