How 2023 Became The Year Of The Lab-Grown Diamond

Diana Pearl of CNN Style was spot on. The technology has brought more shoppers into the market to buy lab-grown diamonds for themselves, rather than simply waiting for their partners or others to do so. Sign of the times really.

Figure

Figure, the 61-foot-long artwork was sold for US$65 million at Poly Auction in Beijing on June 6, 2021. The handscroll is the work of Xu Yang, who was recruited as a court painter by the Qianlong Emperor in the 1750s. It depicts scenes in Beijing during the aftermath of military campaigns to consolidate the emperor's power in China's west---conflicts that would later form part of his so-called Ten Great Campaigns.

The World's Most Expensive Watches

I think Patek Philippe is a watch collector's first choice. While astronomical price tags often come down to rarity and preciousness, a great story certainly helps.

Yves Tanguy

The tale behind the painting by Surrealist Yves Tanguy in a trash container at Dusseldorf Airport is almost surreal as the painting itself, whose title has not been identified. What a happy ending!

The Box Logo Collection

James Bogart's Box Logo Collection will be presented as a private sale alongside an online auction of other rare Supreme items at Christie's in New York. The collection, described by the Christies as a holy grail for Supreme fans and collectors, contains 253 different shirts released between 1994 to 2020, the entire course of the brand's history. I can hardly wait to see the results from the auction sale.

Bought by an anonymous bidder for US$3.5 million, the aureus coin features a portrait of Marcus Junius Brutus, one of the ringleaders in the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC. Despite its age, the coin is in near mint condition, and is one of the only three known to exist.

Can Lab-grown Diamonds Replace The Real Thing?

Not really. Natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds or synthetic diamonds have found their space and opportunity in the consumer market. Natural rubies, sapphires and emeralds have coexisted with synthetic or lab-grown rubies, sapphires and emeralds for decades and the same should be possible with diamonds.
